The first session of the Pak-Afghan Jirga concluded at the Torkham border, with both sides agreeing to maintain peace and resolve ongoing tensions. The Jirga, comprising elders from both countries, discussed key issues, including a ceasefire until the 20th day of Eid-ul-Fitr, halting construction work in disputed areas, and reopening the border for bilateral trade and pedestrian movement.

Afghan Jirga members requested time until Monday evening to consult with Afghan authorities, including the Commissioner, on the discussed matters. The second session of the Jirga will be held based on the Afghan delegation’s call.

The Torkham border has been a point of contention recently, leading to closures and heightened tensions. However, the Jirga’s positive discussions have raised hopes for a peaceful resolution, ensuring the resumption of trade and movement across the border.

Both sides expressed commitment to dialogue and mutual agreement, emphasizing the importance of maintaining long-term peace and stability in the region.
